Chelsea Suffer Embarrassing Loss to West Ham

The new English Premier League season is off to a rough start for Chelsea, who endured a last-minute 3-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, 20 August.

West Ham set the tone of the match just seven minutes after the first whistle at London Stadium in England, when defender Nayef Aguerd scored the first goal, assisted by his team-mate James Ward-Prowse.

The Blues’ 19-year-old midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, was able to level the scoreboard during his debut game for the team at the 28-minute mark, when he scored the solitary goal for his side.

However, the Hammers weren’t going to go down without a fight as striker, Michail Antonio, pulled his side into the lead once more with a goal in the 53rd minute, also assisted by Ward-Prowse.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo – who has just joined the club on a British record transfer fee of £115 million – had a chance to equalise the match once again, but an overzealous shot saw him overshooting the goal box.

West Ham finally put the game to rest five minutes into overtime, when midfielder Lucas Paquetá scored the final goal of the match on a penalty kick, leaving the Blues to shuffle home under the burden of their defeat.
